Painting a thousand words

I love photography. For me, photographs are all about stories. Hence, photography is all about story-telling in a different form. It is all about capturing the minute details of life as it unfolds. Much like painting, it is like trying to contain a thousand words in a single image. There is much artistry in this and for that, I envy those who are able to dabble in this art form, professionals and hobbyists alike.

Through pictures, photographers are able to show us life as lived from every possible angle, in every possible color, and in every possible light. They are also able to convey different emotions by choosing to focus on different elements of a single shot. This I think is where artistry becomes a responsibility. As a story-teller who can make other people see and feel things through still images, a photographer can simultaneously entertain, educate, and empower audiences. It is therefore a photographer's challenge to be always able to tell stories that can inspire, motivate, and bring audiences to new heights of awareness about themselves and about life.

Always the idealist, I hope that this becomes every photographer's goal -- to tell us stories through pictures that will make us understand more about ourselves and our endless possibilities, and empower us to strive to become more than just faces in the background.

kaigachi is a conjugation of the Japanese term "kigaicha" or crazy. It roughly translates as "crazy about something."

"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light but by making the darkness conscious." - C.Jung
